NUTRITION

My diet is OK, why do I need a nutritionist?

There are many routes to health – the most fundamental and the one you can most easily control yourself, is to provide your body with optimum nutrition. Giving your body the best possible intake of nutrients, whilst avoiding factors that can have a detrimental effect on your health, allows it to function optimally.

But how do you know which foods are best? As we are all unique, there is no one diet which is perfect for all of us, all of the time. A nutritionist can help you find a healthy way of eating which is best suited to your individual biochemical strengths and weaknesses and which fits in with the unique demands of your lifestyle.

Optimum nutrition can help:

  • Boost energy levels
  • Fight off infections
  • Improve digestive problems such as bloating, constipation and IBS
  • Reduce mood swings
  • Balance hormones and reduce PMS
  • Control weight problems
  • Alleviate allergies and intolerances
  • Lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure

What to expect from a consultation

Your first consultation will include a review of your medical history and a discussion of your health concerns. This consultation focuses on identifying biochemical imbalances and the impact of your diet and lifestyle on your health. If appropriate, biochemical tests may be recommended to help diagnose potential imbalances. A nutrition program will be devised for you, which will be relative to your health requirements and structured uniquely according to your individual needs.

Most nutritional programmes require simple changes to your diet; more serious problems need a more intensive programme. You will leave your consultation armed with masses of information including a personalised dietary programme, plenty of meal suggestions, recipes and practical advice on how to apply the recommendations on a day-to-day basis. A follow-up consultation is recommended 4-6 weeks later and any subsequent appointments depend on the progress achieved and the level of health desired. Telephone/email support is available for the duration of your programme.
